Original elfLight takes hassle out of hanging Christmas lights

elfLightShinesEDMONTON, Alta. Nov 29, 2015/ Troy Media/ – Originally, the Elf Light was either a beam of light from the sky reflecting off shiny ornaments or the glow of Rudolph’s red nose. But today, the Original elfLight – a gadget designed to make your annual holiday light hanging agony virtually non-existent – provides whole new meaning.

Rather than a string lights outside your house this Christmas, the Original elfLight laser-light projection system simulates a sea of coloured bulbs onto your home, patio or garage. Better yet, the system means the ladder never has to leave your garage this Christmas.

The Original elfLight’s sealed, sturdy metal alloy housing is designed to be both weatherproof and, to an extent, shockproof. You just have to prop it up by attaching it to the adjustable spike stand and sticking it into the ground or mounting it to a wall using the adjustable flat base stand (new for 2015) that comes with mounting screws. The elfLight is also suitable for use indoors.

It runs on standard AC power and comes with a corded transformer that connects to a long extension cord, giving you a good eight metres (25 ft.) of cable to work with.  READ FULL POST at TROY MEDIA.

Belkin Qode detachable app-enabled iPad wireless keyboard

Belkin FrontIf you find yourself using your iPad Air 2 for more of your daily tasks, you may also find a greater need to carry around a physical keyboard. If that’s the case, then it might be time to have a look at the Belkin Qode Ultimate Pro Keyboard for iPad Air 2.

While it does have an unusual name, the Qode Ultimate Pro is both a keyboard and a protective case. Unlike other Belkin models, the case component attaches with its magnetic flap so the keyboard is never permanently tethered. It’s handy, so you can quickly and conveniently detach and use your iPad in handheld mode. And should you decide to leave the keyboard at home, you can still have added protection. The case component is fully compatible with the Apple Smart Cover if you already own one. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog,

Misfit puts a new Shine on fitness bling

cardoon_set_1

It’s no secret that wearables are becoming a pretty big thing but when I hear the term “activity tracking jewelry” it really makes me wonder.  I guess keeping fit and looking sharp now go hand-in-hand as Misfit, the makers of the Shine fitness and sleep activity tracker have unveiled, just in time for the holiday season, the Swarovski Shine Collection.

The Misfit Shine has been around for a couple of years. It’s a slim fitness activity monitor that can pair with an Android, iOS or Windows app to help track your typical everyday activities like running, walking and even sleeping. Its claim to fame is both its slimness and its lack of buttons, dials and connectors. Shine uses a tap method to communicate with your wireless device using its own proprietary algorithm – which was recently redesigned to improve tap sensitivity. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog

Phiaton BT-110 funky square bluetooth earbuds

bt110-manEvery time I come across a new set of earbuds or headphones I always hear from the vendors that theirs are a little bit different. Taking the opportunity to test drive the new Phiaton BT-110 wireless compact  sport Bluetooth earbuds, I have to admit that these do fit that description.

First of all, looking at them, they seem to be something you’d find as an implant on an episode of Star Trek. Rather than the typical round bodies you find on most earbuds, these are actually rectangular so they sort of cover part of your ear.

To make sure you have a good fit, you get three sets of Vulcan-style silicon ear wings, featuring their aptly named RightFit+ technology and four sizes of traditional silicon tips. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Amplio: Retro radio inspired bamboo smartphone amplifier

AmplioAmplio is a cool sounding name for the latest smartphone sound amplifier dock trying to make its way to market through an upcoming Kickstarter campaign. The name implies amplification, but that tells you only part of the story. Amplio is totally wireless, eco-friendly and requires absolutely no power because it’s made from bamboo.

creator Vlad Butucariu, is a designer from Rotterdam, Netherlands who has been working on the project for the past six months. His goal was to create an amplifier for smartphones that had a unique modern desirable design yet still maintain the flavour inspired by the minimalist classic designs of radios from yesteryear. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Remembrance Day: The Homefront in Alberta (archive)

The Second World War was hard on the men fighting on the front lines as well as those they left behind.

wecandoitFROM THE ARCHIVES

EDMONTON, AB, Nov. 4, 2008/ Troy Media/ – While the Second World War was hard on the men and women fighting on the front lines, it was also hard on those they left behind.

This is important to remember this Remembrance Day.

It’s two sides of the same coin, said Dr. Adriana Davies, Executive Director and of the Heritage Community Foundation. “The front (line) was only one side of the coin. The home front was the other side,” she said.

World War II: The Homefront in Alberta, one of the newest sites within the Alberta Online Encyclopedia – albertasource.ca, contains powerful and compelling stories of the realities faced by the people who were thousands of kilometers away from the actual war front. The project is a result of a partnership with the Canadian Militaria Preservation Society and the Royal Alberta Museum.  READ FULL POST at Troy Media.
