Justin Bieber again McAfee’s most dangerous Canadian celebrity

If you’re not familiar with some of today’s antivirus products, you might think by reading the headline, that Justin Bieber got himself into trouble again. However here, this is not the case. The headline refers to online searches for the chart-topping “Beebs” being again the #1 bait on the Canadian chart, to lure unsuspecting fans into the hands of hackers. This is according to the 2016 McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities Study.

The study, now in its 10th year, is named for McAfee, a company that produces products that helps protect your computers and smart phones from nasties like spyware, viruses and malware. It’s published by Intel Security who research a variety of well-known figures which not only includes musicians but also actors, comedians, TV hosts, sports celebrities and more. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Twitter “virtually” expands 140-character limit

If you’re always compressing your Twitter tweets by shortening words, eliminating others and taking out punctuation to conserve valuable space to insert a picture or poll and still have breathing room, you’ll be happy to know that Twitter is giving you a new way to exceed the 140-character limit.

Now they’ve not actually changed the standard 140-character limit but rather tweaked the rules somewhat so that not everything you include in your tweet counts towards that limit.

Some items that will not count towards the limit include: @names in replies (not new tweets), attaching photos, a video, GIFs, a poll, or Quote Tweet.  Read Full Post at CanoeTech Blog.

Review: IK Mulitmedia iRig HD 2 digital guitar interface

1-2_irighd2_34_vertIK Multimedia has finally unveiled their sequel to the affordable pocket-sized iRig HD digital guitar interface and not surprising, it’s called the iRig HD 2. This low-noise, high-definition guitar preamp offers the same functionality as its predecessor plus a whole lot more, adding some much needed features to the original and new additions to keep up with advancing technologies.

The new iRig HD 2 has a solid build quality and is just slightly larger (by 9 mm) and a touch heavier by (15 g), so it is still nice and compact and pretty much still fits in the palm of your hand. It draws power from the host and is designed for use with iOS devices including the new iPhone 7 as well as Macs and PCs. It features a 24-bit analog-to-digital converter plus a 96 kHz sampling rate for an ultra high-definition, high-quality signal.

It has an onboard gain control dial so you can control the pre-amp signal input from the 1/4″ Hi-Z jack when playing or recording to make sure you’re at the right level. There’s also a multicoloured LED to monitor that level. Read Full Review at CanoeTech Blog.

Bluetooth audio adapters have been around for a while. At first they were marketed as giving you the ability to use your favourite wired headphones wirelessly, i.e. not having them tethered to your smartphone. Now with the likes of Apple’s iPhone 7 and the the Motorola Moto Z shipping sans headphone jacks, an adapter like the new iTrip Clip Bluetooth Audio Adapter by Griffin Technology is a wireless alternative to using USB to 3.5 mm adapters.

ResQBattery disposable smartphone battery pack

With the number of rechargeable battery banks available one would think that a pocket disposable battery pack like ResQBattery may not make any sense. However, the fact is even spare batteries lose capacity over time and often we forget to charge them, so having a spare in case of emergency or in the event there’s no where handy to recharge, may not be such a bad idea.

This is the concept behind ResQbattery, the brainchild of entrepreneur Idit Hoter-Ishay and founder of Nofet LLC who conceived the idea a few years ago after her battery died and she urgently needed to use her phone while travelling in China. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

LG V20 unveiling live streaming this evening – Sept. 6th

If you want to catch the official unveiling for the much anticipated LG Electronics V20 SmartPhone, you can pick up a live stream of the event at the top of the LG USA Mobile’s Facebook page later this evening. The official stream originating from San Francisco will go live at 8:50PM EST, 5:50PM PST, just ahead of the iPhone 7 announcement expected tomorrow morning. While there has been some official information on the V20 pre-released, a few further “leaks” seem to have surfaced.

Like the iPhone 7, rumours have been plentiful, with not a significant number of details being officially revealed. We know that the LG V20 will run Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box and and that it will be the first phone to showcase Google’s new In-App Search, which will allow you to virtually find anything in one place from all your user-installed apps as well as from within your contacts, emails, text messages and photos. We also know it will have the world’s first Quad DAC, which we talked about here at CanoeTech Blog a few weeks back.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Triple driver three-button models are not the most common when it comes to earphones and really non-existent for Android users – until now. Degauss Labs, a manufacturer based in Stockholm Sweden has just introduced HOWL, a pair of handmade hybrid in-ear monitors to fill that void.

HOWL incorporates three individual drivers into each earbud allowing for the proper separation of low, midrange and high frequencies.
