iPhone 6s powers down but won’t blow up

Faulty battery leads to iPhone 6s recall

iphone6s-silver-selectEDMONTON, Alta. Nov. 23, 2016/ Troy Media/ – Apple has announced a recall of some of its iPhone 6s due to a faulty battery.

There is no need to worry, however, as, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which are now banned on all airlines, the iPhone 6 batteries won’t explode or catch fire.

In fact, Apple says there is no safety concern; the defect may simply cause your phone to shut down unexpectedly.

The recall doesn’t cover all iPhone 6s phones, only some of those that were manufactured in September and October 2015 and certain handsets that fall within a certain serial number range.  Read full post at Troy Media.

Don’t call iKlip Grip Pro just a selfie-stick

iKlipGripPro_PR

Whether we’re taking family photos, creating our next viral video, we want to capture it with smartphones or DSLR cameras, when we want it and how we want it. So having a professional 4-in-1 gadget like the new iKlip Grip Pro by IK Multimedia to make it easier to FaceTime, Facebook Live, Skype or what have you, would be pretty useful. It would allow you to effectively use one single item as a tripod, monopod, video handle, (ok, like a selfie-stick) and a remote shutter.

Reviewing the iKlip Grip PRO, it seems like the reincarnation of the iKlip Grip we reviewed last year here at Canoe Tech Blog, with the PRO model having new design and much-improved features.

At first glance, yes, it looks like a selfie-stick – even though these are starting to get banned in some public places, but you can also use it to extend your reach above a crowd at a concert. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Impact absorbing BodyGuardz for your iPhone 7

bodyguardz-Ace-Pro

Not all cases are created equal. This is even truer of the BodyGuardz Ace Pro Case for Apple iPhone 7 for the simple reason, pardon the pun, it’s lined with Unequal military-grade impact absorbing technology and the same used in professional athlete’s gear on the field.

Its bumper is made from TPU also known as Thermoplastic Polyurethane. To give it added shock absorption properties, an impact gel, which incorporates Kevlar and Acceleron, materials Unequal uses to make their body armour, is injected into the mould during the manufacturing process. The idea is that if your phone is dropped while inside the case, the bumper absorbs the shock and it dissipates upon impact.

Even better is that the better protection can be had without the need for added bulk, keeping the case sleek and low profile. In fact, the rounded edges of the case feel very natural to the shape of the iPhone 7.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog

Review: PowerUP FPV: Live streaming paper airplane drone

right_side_2048X_grandeEvery kid at one time or another loved to fly paper airplanes. In fact in my youth I spent some time in the principal’s office just for that reason. Today it’s all about gadgets, cameras and drones. So would it surprise you to know that there’s a cool new product that incorporates all of those? Even better, how about a gadget that lets you see what the plane sees  as it flies? It’s called PowerUP FPV Paper Airplane VR Drone.

Think about it, putting a camera that can stream video on a paper airplane seems almost impossible, but then again didn’t the Chicago Cubs win the World Series? And what about the celebrity billionaire being elected President of the United States.

PowerUP FPV, the first ever airplane drone of this kind, is the brainchild of a partnership between the creators – PowerUp (now on their third product) and well known drone manufacturer Parrot (who provides the streaming technology), through a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised almost half a million dollars last year.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Get U.S. Cash at Canadian ATMs

CIBC US Cash

I learn something new everyday. Yesterday, it was that I could get US currency from a Canadian ATM at CIBC. At this one particular branch in Edmonton, one of the ATM machines has been given the additional capability of dispensing US Cash – but it has to be in $20 denominations.

Now I didn’t actually need U.S. currency at the time; I was actually just venting to one of the staff that the machine I was using only dispenses $50 bills, so now I had to stand in line to get change. That’s when the helpful customer service person smiled and said, “Just look above the machine. You see the 50 icon? That means it dispenses $50 bills. And by the way that machine at the end issues US Currency – see the American Flag above it?”  The young lady also happened to mention that I would likely get a better exchange rate than at the till; she didn’t say how much and I could withdraw the currency right from a Canadian account.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Modular Pro-Ject Genie turntable pure genius

Pro-JectGenieIt was Mark Twain who said his reported death had been greatly exaggerated. This can easily be extended to the record player or more specifically, the turntable. Even with CDs, iPods, digital downloads and now streaming being the choice for music listeners, the turntable, an icon from the last millennium had never really died it just wasn’t top of mind. In fact if you look at the RPM 1.3 Genie by Pro-Ject, it has come back into the limelight with a vengeance.

Now true die-hard audiophiles have always believed that digital sound just does not feel the same as the true analog sound produced through playing vinyl. Whether you’re a student of that school or not, there’s no doubt that sound quality can be affected by the quality and condition of the vinyl, the stylus and cartridge and how well it sits within the groove walls of the vinyl record.  The last part of that equation is how everything is further impacted by the turntable platter; where the record sits; how evenly and smooth it rotates and how that’s affected by any rumble, vibration or noise caused by the turntable’s motor. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Flashionable Flash Cube speaker features lighted woofer and tweeter

FlashCube_FrontWithRemote_Teal_weblg

You’ve heard about lights that flash with the music but how about lights that are actually embedded right into the speaker?  That’s what the Ion Flash Cube Bluetooth Speaker is all about.

I caught my first glance of this cool flashing beauty from Ion Audio amongst other cool things recently at London Drug’s LD Tech 2016. As the name says, it’s shaped like a cube and looks like the old flash cube.

First and foremost, it’s a Bluetooth enabled wireless speaker. It can punch out 50 W of power from its 5 1/2 inch woofer and 1 inch tweeter. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.
