LG Announces 4K FreeSync Display

freesync-mu67LG has just announced a new 27-inch class Ultra HD 4K monitor that offers a 16:9 aspect ratio and a huge 3840 x 2160 screen resolution intended to provide the ultimate gaming experience for both real-time strategy and first-person shooter games that have graphic intensive visuals and ultra fast paced action.

The monitor, the LG 27MU67 features AMD’s FreeSync technology designed to eliminate image tearing and stuttering which typically happens when the monitor’s refresh rate and the graphics card’s frame rate can’t keep up with the other each other and end up out of sync. With the inclusion of FreeSync, even with a refresh range of only 40-60Hz, the gamer will experience both a fluid motion and no loss of frame rate. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Young Toronto entrepreneur takes on Candy Crush turning playtime into paytime

A young Toronto entrepreneur is giving away a minimum of $1,000 per week with the hopes of attracting enough players to play his games and build his user base and then in turn earn ad dollars to take on the likes of Candy Crush. And unlike other revenue models where you need to pay-to-play, this model is Free-2-Win; there are no in-app purchases. And the more you play, the more chances you have to win.

“Our mandate with Big Time is to change the way mobile users play games,” says Jeremy Zuckerman, Founder of WINR Games. “The games are fun on their own, but the opportunity to win cash only adds to the appeal of the app. We’re the first and only free mobile gaming app to offer a cash prize. Our aim is to pave the way for the future of mobile gaming.”

And they’ve already given away lots of green, almost $20K to date. READ Full article at: CanoeTech Blog

Tetris Turns 30

Tetris 30 Logo

1984 is best known for the name of George Orwell’s 1948 book that paints a bleak look at the future and the year that saw the release of the original Macintosh, where we saw “why 1984 won’t be like 1984“. But it was also on this day exactly 30 years ago today that Tetris was unveiled to the world.

Tetris is a highly addictive game, where “falling” shaped pieces or “Tetriminos” as they are called have to be arranged into rectangular shapes to create, in real time, a line, as they float down the screen.

New gadgets you’ll give a hoot about!

Owl

I recently had an opportunity to be a guest at the London Drugs Retail Tech Group Conference and Trade show in Whistler, BC. It’s really nice to see that, even while technology is growing at an exponential rate, there’s still plenty of room for face-to-face interaction and one-on-one product demonstrations. Truth be told, it makes a whale of a difference. There were about 60 vendors in attendance and we managed to see a number of new and nifty things, many of which would make ideal gifts for the holidays. While it would be impossible to cover the whole gamut of what I saw in a short time, here are a few items, in no particular order, that I thought stood out and would make some great gifts for the upcoming holidays.
