SMS Audio heart monitoring earbuds require no batteries

If I mention heart monitor sensors to you you’d probably be thinking finger clip, wristband or maybe even watch. One thing for sure, you most likely wouldn’t be thinking earbuds. SMS Audio, founded by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has teamed up with Intel to create the BioSport Biometric Earbuds, so if it’s important to you to monitor your heart rate, you can do it while out and about listing to your favourite tunes without having to worry or need to have an additional device or gadget attached you.

SMS Audio is not the first out of the gate to create the dual-purpose earbud/heart monitor. However, what is novel is that the biometric monitoring is designed to use so little power, it does not require a battery; it’s fully driven from the 3.5 mm gold-plated audio jack that plugs in to your smartphone. FlipBelt does away with armbands and fanny packs

You’re out for a jog or run but you need to carry around your smart phone, keys and probably a few other things. You don’t have that many pockets and your tired of those very in attractive armbands and things bouncing up and down in your pockets. So the good folks at FlipBelt have come out with a cool little fitness accessory of the same name, so you can carry all of the above, including something as big as an iPhone 6 Plus and more, right around your waist.

Runtastic Orbit fitness activity and sleep tracker review

I spend a significant amount of time in front of some form of screen and probably not enough time at the gym, doing things that keep me in shape like walking which I strive to do at least three to five times per week. Now depending on whom you talk to, it can take 21 days, 40 days or somewhere in between to form a habit. Whatever that number is for you, having a device able to be with you 24/7 is a probably a good way to start. So I jumped at the opportunity to test-drive the new Runtastic Orbit, a real-time activity, fitness and sleep tracker.

Austria-based Runtastic is not a newcomer to the tracking game; they already have a whack of other apps on the market like Runtastic Road Bike, Pedometer and Wintersports. However, this is their first foray into providing their own complete hardware and software solution. The heart of the Orbit comes in the form an interestingly shaped waterproof module. The perfect pouch for the TruRunner

As the mercury climbs, we do away with the hoodies and tracksuits and opt for T-shirts and shorts we find ourselves with fewer pockets and places to keep our keys, smartphones and the like as we head out and about for a walk or a run. One solution to avoid a knapsack or a bulky fanny pack is the TruRunner by Bracketron, a sturdy diminutive lightweight waist pack to store the necessities you need to carry.

TruRunner has a fully adjustable elasticized belt that hugs nicely to your body. Its pleated in-line pocket, may not look like much, but actually expands quite nicely allowing you to store things like your iPhone, keys and perhaps another small personal item or even a granola bar. It’s lining is weather resistant to keep your electronics dry and a weatherproof sealing zipper can help avoid leaks.

I wholeheartedly resist calling TruRunner a fanny pack, for the simple reason that that term conjures up images of the 1990s humongous multi-zippered leather pouch that looked more like a life preserver than a portable storage pack.
