CES 2016 Fold-up scooter, broadcast mounts and instant touch screens

There will be thousands of products announced, unveiled and displayed at this year’s International CES 2016 and here are a few to begin with that really caught my attention. Three in particular are; a cool little fold-up scooter, a professional smartphone mount and a gadget that gives your PC notebook instant touch functionality.

Fold-up Smart Scooter

Smart-Rhino unveiled their cool little Xcooter, which you have to say real fast to get right. As you’ve probably guessed, it’s a scooter and if you look closely at the picture, it’s designed in the shape of an X.

Its body is made of a full aluminum alloy and fairly lightweight. It’s designed with their own-patented technology to fold up along with the handlebar in one second making it space efficient and quickly storable. Although it does weigh just under 42 lb (19 kg), but a folding size of only 21 ¼” x 7 ¾” x 38″, you could theoretically throw it in your car or take with you so you don’t have to worry about locking it up. Read more… at Canoe Tech Blog.

Navigating the Tech Zoo

Whether it’s for your home, office or a gift during the upcoming holiday season, it’s no secret that sometimes it can feel like a zoo navigating crowded store aisles or the Internet wilderness while seeking out the right technology. But fortunately, I had an opportunity once again, to take in LDTECH 2015 – London Drugs Retail Tech Group Annual Conference or at east a portion of it . Not only did I once again get to see birds of prey but also “friendly” animals you wouldn’t necessarily find in your neighbourhood. Now, I didn’t get a chance to partake in the awards ceremonies, in-depth training sessions and other secret things the 650 LD attendees do to keep current and enlightened. However, I did get to partake with them getting up close and personal with many of the 75 vendors displaying many exciting gadgets and tech ware many new and soon available at your local stores.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

4 Back to School gadgets of the mini kind

TierTimeUp3D

There is certainly no shortage of gadgets suitable for Back-to-School season, but here are four in the mini category that just might surprise you. How about your own personal mini 3D-printer, a nanoglass liquid screen protector for your mobile device, a bike taillight that’s also a video camera or a cool mini portable personal safe?

Tiertime UP Mini 3-D printer

If you are studying Arts or Engineering, a 3-D printer just might be the tool you need for your next school project. The good news is that they’ve become much more affordable. If you own one you won’t have to stand in line at the lab.

One that comes to mind is the Tiertime UP Mini 3-D printer. It’s as easy to use as a traditional inkjet printer and with its UP software, you can be up and running fairly quickly.  It can “print” objects from ABS or PLA (Polylactic Acid) plastic in sizes up to 120mm cubed with detail as fine as 200 microns. Its housing design will protect any pets or little ones running around the home from any potentially hot parts. It also shuts off automatically when the printing is done. Good news is it won’t take up a lot of valuable desk space if you are in a small dorm as it measures only 12.6″ x 9.4″ x 18.3″ and weighs a mere 6 kg.  It retails for $849.99 and is available at London Drugs   Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Fathers Day gifts for gadget-loving Dads

Kinivo snapIt’s that time again finding the right gift for dear old Dad. If you’re looking for some funky socks, you won’t find them here unless they’re water-cooled or have embedded sensors, in which case I really should “get me a pair”. But fear not, there are certainly some really cool gadgets for Dad most of which I’m sure he’d be happy to share with the family.

Galileo Motorized Robotic Platform

If Dad loves to take pictures and capture video then Galileo by Motrr might be just the accessory he’s looking for. I wouldn’t call it a droid, but a closer description might be an app controlled motorized robotic platform. Galileo will allow Dad to not only prop up his iPhone or iPod touch or even GoPro but also help him zoom, pan, tilt and rotate up to 360 degrees remotely. This can be from either a nearby Bluetooth enabled handheld device or from the other side of the world through the Internet. You can also program Galileo with pre-programmed movements; face tracking and one touch panoramas. Imagine the incredible shots and virtual tours Dad could make. He could also use it for cool Google Hangouts or even a remote security camera. READ Full Post at CanoeTech Blog.

Apple refreshes iPad, iPad mini, iMac and Mac Mini lineup

It’s been barely a month since Apple’s iPhone 6 event in September and yet another has already come and gone. Now perhaps this last held one held yesterday might have been a little more anticlimactic than the iPhone 6 event but nonetheless there were some significant announcements about new iPad, iMac and Mac Mini models and of course the official announcement of Mac OS X Yosemite.

iPad Air 2

As expected, the iPad Air was refreshed and replaced with the iPad Air 2. The iPad Air was already pretty thin but this new model is even thinner now at just 6.1 mm thick and weighing in at less than a single pound. They’ve improved on the Retina display offering richer vibrant colors and a new anti-reflective coating that is designed to reduce glare by up to 56%. It’s also zippier, incorporating a second generation 64-bit and 40% faster A8X chip into its belly and adding 2 1/2 times the graphics performance of the previous iPad Air. It also includes the M8 motion coprocessor, which like the newer iPhones gathers data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and an all-new barometer.
