October 1, 2015 – IK Multimedia announced today that its iRig Keys range of mobile keyboard controllers is going universal, meaning they will be compatible with Lightning-compatible iOS devices and Android devices as well as Mac/PC right out of the box and at the same price as before.
Both the ultra-portable iRig Keys and mobile full-size keyboard iRig Keys PRO controllers will now come with a Micro-USB to OTG cable for Android devices in addition to their Lightning and USB cables. (30-pin cable is still available as an option)
Apple blasted through a new sales record, pumping out over 13 million iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus units in its first three days since last Fridays launch. You enable the virtual keyboard by placing a palm-sized (20 mm x 35 mm x 70 mm) gadget on a flat surface, like a table or a countertop. Then, you pair it wirelessly to almost any Bluetooth 3.0 compatible device and using a red laser diode it projects a full-sized English QWERTY keyboard pattern (sans numeric pad) onto the surface. Finding a pair of budget headphones that has both a recognized brand name and wireless is not always the easiest thing. So when I discovered the Creative Sound Blaster JAM is Bluetooth enabled, supports NFC (near field communications) and retails for under $50 U.S., it certainly piqued my curiosity.
Sound Blaster Jam looks like a typical set of charcoal grey pre-millennium on-ear headphones fitted with a pair of traditional foam cushions except without wires. They have an operating range of up to 15 m, a little less than typical Bluetooth, but then again, the further you stray from your music source, the more breakup you’ll probably get. If you are studying Arts or Engineering, a 3-D printer just might be the tool you need for your next school project. The good news is that they’ve become much more affordable. If you own one you won’t have to stand in line at the lab.
