IK offers free 96kHz firmware upgrade for iRig PRO and iRig HD

While today is Canada Day, owners of the iRig Pro and iRig HD mobile audio interfaces have another reason to celebrate. These funky little devices that enable high-resolution audio sampling can now be enhanced via a firmware update to sample at higher 24-bit 96kHz, for free.

IK Multimedia, creators of the iRig HD and iRig Pro, announced today the no-charge update for registered owners of these devices, allowing them to double their original 24-bit 48kHz sampling rate. According to the company, the update will effectively now allow musicians to, “play and record with recording studio quality sound and capture even more of the subtle nuance and detail of analog instruments and other input sources.” Read Full Article at: Canoe Tech Blog.

Fathers Day gifts for gadget-loving Dads

It’s that time again finding the right gift for dear old Dad. If you’re looking for some funky socks, you won’t find them here unless they’re water-cooled or have embedded sensors, in which case I really should “get me a pair”. But fear not, there are certainly some really cool gadgets for Dad most of which I’m sure he’d be happy to share with the family.

Galileo Motorized Robotic Platform

If Dad loves to take pictures and capture video then Galileo by Motrr might be just the accessory he’s looking for. I wouldn’t call it a droid, but a closer description might be an app controlled motorized robotic platform. Galileo will allow Dad to not only prop up his iPhone or iPod touch or even GoPro but also help him zoom, pan, tilt and rotate up to 360 degrees remotely. This can be from either a nearby Bluetooth enabled handheld device or from the other side of the world through the Internet. iRig UA: First near-zero latency Android guitar effects processor

Review: PureGear Bluetooth enabled selfie stick

The invention of the monopod opened the doors to almost endless selfie possibilities as people no longer had to rely solely on the length of their arm for getting the right shot. And while timers certainly made the task a little easier there was certainly room for improvement. So in their infinite wisdom, accessory maker Pure Gear decided to create a selfie stick that was Bluetooth enabled with an in-line shutter button so you’d no longer have to reach for your device to snap the picture.

The Pure Gear Selfie Stick is small and compact, yet with it’s sleek aerial style telescopic arm can extend the length of your arm from about eight inches to just under three feet. It has a non-slip rubber coated handle and detachable lanyard to ensure it stays in hand.

Its head is made of sturdy thermoplastic and fitted with a spring-loaded style clamp as seen on some other sticks, but with certain enhancements. The upper portion of the clamp is fully rubberized. This allows for better gripping of the edge of your smartphone. The lower portion has a slightly thicker rubber, more like a rounded edged wedge, so when your smartphone is inserted the front of the rubber sits higher, making it more difficult for you smartphone to slip out. Review: ECOPEBBLE Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

There are many portable Bluetooth speakers on the market, a number of which are rated to resist occasional splash. However, the new ECOPEBBLE by EcoXGear has a waterproof/dustproof rating of IPX7, so it’s designed to not only keep out debris, but also water even when fully immersed to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes.

The ECOPEBBLE speaker is tiny and almost square, measuring 2.8 inches high, 2.9 inches wide by 2.8 inches deep and weighs a mere eight ounces. Its perimeter is fully rubberized with big button controls on the top and threaded camera mount screw post on the bottom to attach accessories or mounts. On one side is a colour grille and the other cleverly hidden panel behind a lanyard mounted lens-cap style cover that hides a 3.5” AUX audio-in jack for a wired connection, a microUSB input port for charging, a status indicator light and a main power switch.
