Super Bowl Sunday XVIII was thirty years ago today. And for football fans it will be remembered as the day the AFC’s Los Angeles Raiders lambasted the NFC’s Washington Redskins by a score of 38-9 in front of a massive crowd of 70,000+ at Tampa Stadium. For gadget geeks like me it was the day that Apple formally launched their iconic Super Bowl commercial “1984″.

If you’re heading out to Trick or Treat on Halloween, jog around the neighbourhood or you’re off to locations unknown, it’s probably a good idea to check in with your loved ones to let them know you’re ok. But despite our best intentions we sometimes just forget and unknowingly causing unnecessary worry at home. So isn’t it nice to know that there’s an app that will not only remind you to check in but it will send an SMS alert and or email to a designated emergency contact if you don’t.
It’s called Guardian AlertME, by SnakeHead Software, LLC. Designed for iOS it’s easy to set up and easy to use. Right through the app, you simply register with your name, optional email address and a 4-digit PIN, which acts as your password. There were a number expected announcements and a few surprises at Tuesday’s Apple event in San Francisco, but at the end of the day we saw a number of exciting new and improved products to keep the fan boys and the critics talking for a while. Meanwhile, we heard a lot of the word FREE being echoed throughout the 80-minute presentation.

While it has only been a year, but it seemed to be a long time coming as the world anxiously awaited the arrival of a new iPhone. Critics said Apple was way behind and quickly losing market share, but after the first weekend, when the dust settled, Apple sold a record breaking number of new iPhone 5S and 5C models in just 3 days after its initial launch this past Friday, September 20th.
“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.”
Analysts had predicted that the company would sell 5-6 million iPhones in the first weekend, but easily surpassed that figure.
A decent sized crowd lined up almost out the mall doors this morning at Edmonton’s Southgate Centre anxiously waiting in line to get in to the Apple Store and get their hands on the latest models of the iPhone – the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.

While Disneyland is where dreams come true, it seems that today at the Apple event in Cupertino many rumors had finally come true. As expected, Apple unveiled two new iPhone models; the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S.

Turn the clock back 15 years, August 15th, 1998 and the world’s 1st true Internet appliance, the iMac, was being delivered to its first customer. Announced three months earlier on May 6th, the iMac was the first of many revolutionary products to follow under Steve Jobs’ reign, since his return to Apple in late 1997.

If you’re looking at picking up a new iPhone at an Apple Store across Canada and get it activated in-store on the Rogers or Fido network today, you won’t be able to do so. This comes just one day after Rogers moved from three-year plans to the new shorter two-year plans.
