Review: Latest Kindle Paperwhite right for you?

Kindle Pencil

As an avid iPad user, I never thought I’d ever have a need for an e-reader until I actually spent some time with one. I love books, all kinds of books, physical print books and e-books and when I need to read the latter, I always have an iPad or iPhone within arms reach. But after spending some time reviewing the newest Kindle Paperwhite, I realize it doesn’t have to be one or the other; this e-reader can certainly find a home alongside your favourite tablet.

For those familiar with the Kindle Paperwhite, the revamped 2015 model, replaces the original 2013 offering. Physically, the changes are hardly noticeable. The new incarnation still features a 6-inch greyscale display with e-ink, but it’s now 300 ppi (pixels per inch), up from 212 ppi with a resolution of 1430 x 1080, twice the number of pixels than before. They’ve also doubled the storage memory to 4GB.  [Read more…]

FlashXpress double infrared heating toaster oven

PanasonicFlashXpressFor a gadget enthusiastic household who might be in the market for a new Toaster Oven, the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster Oven might be a good one to add to the list. No, it doesn’t send notifications to your smart watch when your toast is ready, but it does offer double infrared heating (i.e. dual quartz and ceramic elements so it heats up fast, and efficiently gets your food to your plate.

Bracketron TruSportPak with LED Safety Light & Smart VU

The New Bracketron TruSportPak is a clever solution that not only houses your smartphone when you’re on the go it also offers fun, practical and safety features.

Now that’s a good thing given that most of us never leave home without our mobile devices. But when we head out for a jog or walk we typically don’t have a lot of extra places to carry things. There are wristbands and fanny packs but most of them are either passé or not necessarily practical particularly with today’s super-sized devices.

Water Resistant, Clear Window

That’s where the Bracketron TruSportPak with LED Safety Light & Smart VU makes sense. It’s a pleated buckle-style weather resistant waist pack made from durable and stretchy Lycra, so you have room for your phone, but also your keys, a little cash, a few credit cards and even your earbuds.  Read Greg’s Full Review at G4TV Canada.

Misfit puts a new Shine on fitness bling

cardoon_set_1

It’s no secret that wearables are becoming a pretty big thing but when I hear the term “activity tracking jewelry” it really makes me wonder.  I guess keeping fit and looking sharp now go hand-in-hand as Misfit, the makers of the Shine fitness and sleep activity tracker have unveiled, just in time for the holiday season, the Swarovski Shine Collection.

The Misfit Shine has been around for a couple of years. It’s a slim fitness activity monitor that can pair with an Android, iOS or Windows app to help track your typical everyday activities like running, walking and even sleeping. Its claim to fame is both its slimness and its lack of buttons, dials and connectors. Shine uses a tap method to communicate with your wireless device using its own proprietary algorithm – which was recently redesigned to improve tap sensitivity. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog

Navigating the Tech Zoo

Whether it’s for your home, office or a gift during the upcoming holiday season, it’s no secret that sometimes it can feel like a zoo navigating crowded store aisles or the Internet wilderness while seeking out the right technology. But fortunately, I had an opportunity once again, to take in LDTECH 2015 – London Drugs Retail Tech Group Annual Conference or at east a portion of it . Not only did I once again get to see birds of prey but also “friendly” animals you wouldn’t necessarily find in your neighbourhood. Now, I didn’t get a chance to partake in the awards ceremonies, in-depth training sessions and other secret things the 650 LD attendees do to keep current and enlightened. However, I did get to partake with them getting up close and personal with many of the 75 vendors displaying many exciting gadgets and tech ware many new and soon available at your local stores.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Epson WorkForce All-In-One inkjet rivals multifunction laser

wf3640

Attention all Dads. Did you end up with a gift card for Father’s Day and wondering what kind of gadget you might get yourself?  If you’re the kind of guy who likes to buy things that are both useful and practical for both home or office and that can also be shared with the family, then check out the Epson WorkForce WF-3640, an affordable colour inkjet all-in-one that fits those criteria and rivals multifunction lasers.

All-in-one really means 4-in-1.  It prints, copies, scans and yes, it even faxes for the few times you will actually need to. It’s pretty quick too, rated at 19ppm in black and 10ppm in colour and a little more than half that speed when printing double-sided.  It uses the latest DURABrite Ultra pigment ink so it shouldn’t fade or smudge.  Read more…at CanoeTech Blog.

Bottle opening timepiece focuses on Happy Hour

HappyHourISH1I don’t usually find it a challenge to come up with a headline for a story or review, but while tossing around a couple of ideas, this one certainly made me want to have a “beverage”. And so it should, that is, for the simple fact that when staring at it the entire face looks somewhat fuzzy, the hour and the minute hand appearing somewhat blotchy and none of the numbers visible with the exception of the “5”.

Now I know what you might be thinking – that I’ve already decided to partake in the human ritual known to many as Happy Hour which begins around 5 “ish” and that I’ve already had a few too many. Others might nod their heads in agreement, because after a long day, Happy Hour is the only time that matters. But truth be told, I haven’t had a sip – yet – and that’s the way the watch was designed – really!           Read full article At G4TV Canada
