Dress up and Protect Your New iPhone

At this time of year holiday gifts and retailer incentives and discounts are driving the purchase of new smartphones, including the latest iPhone 11. While some people simply grab whatever’s handy when they buy their phone, others prefer to truly accessorize; to dress up, protect or enhance their new pride and joy.  So here are a few ideas from Case-Mate, Smartish, Catalyst and Apple to help you in your quest.

From Camo to Colourful

If you’re tired of boring but still want to keep your case slim and sleek easier to slip into your pocket or purse and yet still protect your phone, Case-Mate has a number of new designs in this style to fit the bill.

Some of the styles include: Tough Camo, Tough Groove, Tie-Dye DIY Rainbow, Tough Summer Berries, Tough Watercolor, Confetti Waterfall, Kodachrome Super 8, Prabal Gurung Gold Waterfall. They use certified safe mineral oil in all waterfall cases, fruit in their Tough Juice cases and actual real ink droplets suspended in their Tough Watercolor cases, so each one is not only very cool, but also unique.

They’re also compatible with wireless chargers so they do not need to be removed when your battery runs low. They feature an anti-yellowing and anti scratch coating to keep them in good shape after extended use. While they’re not designed for rugged environments, the shock absorbing materials used to create the cases will protect your phone from a 10-foot drop and flexible enough to help you keep a good grip on them while holding.

They’re available from Amazon or directly from Case-Mate. Price range from $20-$59.

Smartish Prop Tart props up any phone

Prop Tart not for your Toaster

Also from Smartish is the Prop Tart an accessory for lovers of Snapchat, Selfies and YouTube. It’s not something you’d drop into your toaster nor is it an iPhone case. It’s actually a slim fit collapsible loop and kickstand that peels and sticks to almost any surface (except silicone).

Extend the loop and insert a finger or two to keep your phone stable when looking for that perfect Selfie or for making one-handed texting a little easier. When watching videos, turn your phone on its side and Prop Tart props it up for an instant kickstand. It sells for $13.99 and available from Amazon.

Catalyst case keeps the water out

Functional, Fashionable and Waterproof

If you tend to use your phone near or in water, the Catalyst Waterproof case for iPhone 11 should be your go to choice.  It’s fully sealed and has been tested to withstand water immersion of up to 10m (33 ft.).  It’s made from impact-resistant and scratchproof polycarbonate and military grade tested for shocks and drops up to two metres (6.6 ft.)

Despite the fact it’s designed to keep water out, it has its own patented True Sound Acoustic Technology that will let the sound out so you won’t lose any quality when taking calls or listening to music.  You still get full functionality of the screen; buttons, flash and camera including a patented rotating mute toggle Hard-coated Dual Optical Lens.

And should you need access to your charging port, the waterproof plug can easily be removed. Catalyst Waterproof case for iPhone 11 retails for $119.99. It comes in black or flame-red and includes a wrist lanyard. It’s available from CatalystCase.ca.

Smart Battery Case: 50% more battery &
dedicated camera button

Apple Smart Battery Case

For those who never seem to have enough battery power, Apple offers their own Smart Battery Case offering protection plus up to an additional 50% more power than your phone’s built-in battery. This means if your iPhone 11 is rated for up to 10 hours of video playback, you can expect up to 15 hours when used together with the fully charged smart battery case.

The case has a silky soft-touch silicone exterior for a non-slip comfortable grip and a soft microfibre lining so it won’t scratch your iPhone.

A dedicated camera button that quick launches the phone’s Camera App is an unexpected yet much-welcomed feature and engages whether your iPhone is locked or not. This can be particularly handy for an unanticipated photo or video opp. A quick press snaps a photo; a long press grabs a QuickTime video.

It works with Qi certified wireless chargers and both the case and your battery can be charged simultaneously.

Apple Smart Battery case is available for all the latest iPhone models. It comes in black or soft white and pink sand on some models. It retails in Canada for $179 and available from your local Apple Store or your favourite authorized dealer.
