WickedAudioSplitterIt’s not often that you see two people sharing the same audio source from an iPod, smartphone or tablet, but when the need arises, it’s nice to know that each individual has the ability to control his or her volume with the new Audio Splitter from Wicked Audio.

For the Tablet Lover

If you like a full-sized tablet without the bulk, the new Apple iPad Air is 20% thinner, 28% lighter and with the new A7 chip and M7 motion coprocessor is more powerful than ever before.

New gadgets you’ll give a hoot about!

Owl

I recently had an opportunity to be a guest at the London Drugs Retail Tech Group Conference and Trade show in Whistler, BC. It’s really nice to see that, even while technology is growing at an exponential rate, there’s still plenty of room for face-to-face interaction and one-on-one product demonstrations. Truth be told, it makes a whale of a difference. There were about 60 vendors in attendance and we managed to see a number of new and nifty things, many of which would make ideal gifts for the holidays. While it would be impossible to cover the whole gamut of what I saw in a short time, here are a few items, in no particular order, that I thought stood out and would make some great gifts for the upcoming holidays.

Review: IK’s new Bluetooth portable speaker is certainly iLOUD

iLoud_front

There is certainly no shortage of Bluetooth speakers on the market. They come in all different shapes, sizes, colours and levels of quality and most of them are designed around working with portable devices; but there really hasn’t been one that was designed primarily with the musician in mind, until now.

KidzSafe headphones are safe for kids

KidzSafeHeadphone

With kids tuning in at a much younger age than before, reports have found that millions of children ages three and up are being affected by some sort of hearing loss due to their exposure to noise. And while noise can come from a number of sources, two supposed culprits, which should be of no surprise to anyone, are headphones and earbuds. So KidzSafe has come up with a solution that not only has volume-limiting technology built right into them, they’re also fun and fully customizable for the little ones.

Review: Satechi Bluetooth Wireless Keypad

Satechi Wireless Smart Keypad

I really enjoy using my Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard but one thing it’s missing, similar to many notebooks, is a numeric keypad. I’m certainly not an accountant or do tons of data entry, but truthfully, having a keypad handy to quickly punch in numbers rather than pecking one number at a time can certainly be a godsend. Apple doesn’t make one, so accessory maker Satechi designed one to fill the void.

The Satechi Bluetooth Wireless Smart Keypad looks stylishly similar to the Apple Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard including the rounded battery compartment. In fact side-by-side from far, you’d think it was a matched pair. However, unlike the Apple aluminium frame, the Satechi is made of plastic and coated with a brush-aluminium finish. The keys are white, similar in size except for the larger “0”.  It’s slightly more elongated than the keyboard, likely due to its prominent LED display that takes up the upper portion of the device as it can double as a calculator, which you can access by simply pressing the mode button.  READ FULL ARTICLE at G4TV CANADA

3D printed bow-tie protects you from space invaders

3DBowtie

With your positively overwhelming response to our 3D car printing post, we thought you might like another 3D story. While this one might not be as grandiose as printing a car, it’s creatively entertaining nonetheless.  This time it’s a bowtie. Not any bowtie, but a 3D printed one that’s designed to alert a person you might be talking to with a series of flashing LEDs that they have come just too close for comfort for a little too long.

Reinvented 19th century lens raises $1 Million on Kickstarter

Comparison_OLD_VS_NEW

A new Kickstarter project designed to bring a legendary 19th century camera lens back to life has already got a real boost, having raised $1.13 million U.S. in just over a week. The kicker, pardon the pun, is that the funders were originally looking for backers to pledge $100,000, an amount that they reached within a matter of a few hours. And with already over 2,700 backers, it certainly sounds like there’s a new demand for this oldie but goodie technology.

Review: Sharp Aquos LC-60LE857U 3D LED Smart TV

1-LC-60LE857U_55R

About two and a half years ago I had the opportunity to test-drive Sharp’s 46” Aquos Quattron and gave a review here at Canoe Tech blog. Remember the commercial featuring George Takei (Mr. Sulu from Star Trek) in his white lab coat?  At that time 46″ was still considered reasonably large and I really wanted to see whether that one little yellow pixel would really make a difference. Fast-forward to today and Sharp Aquos Quattron has taken a leap forward. Not only have screens increased up to 90”, they’ve also become a lot smarter in the 6, 7 & 8-series models.
