Review: Fluance Fi30 Bluetooth Wood Speaker System

I’ve become so used to seeing speakers that are housed in cabinets made with plastic and metal that I almost forgot about speakers that come in wood grained cabinetry just like the ones I got so used to during my formative years. So I was pleasantly surprised when I had an opportunity to test drive one that reminded me of days gone by.

Fluance, a North American based direct-to-market speaker brand, has combined the best of yesterday and today with their high-performance Fi30 speaker system. It features wireless audio streaming via Bluetooth powered by aptX enhanced audio technology incorporated into a solid audio grade MDF wood cabinet.

Although it is wireless, it’s fairly hefty and not really designed to be portable, measuring 16.5″ x 5.5″ x 5.5″ and weighs a whopping 8.3 pounds. There’s no battery option as it runs purely on AC and the kind of device that would not seem out of place on a wall unit or mantle.

Under the hood it has two 3-inch woven glass fibre composite drivers with butyl rubber surrounds. There is no separate bass speaker, but in the rear you’ll find two respectably tuned bass ports that give you just about that you just the right amount of resonance without the need for a subwoofer.   READ FULL REVIEW at G4TV Canada

Champ Bodyguard AR for Her & ZipStick 3-in-1 Power Banks

Every once in a while you come across two cool products that are functionally identical but marketed under different brands. Such is the case with the Champ Bodyguard Battery Rechargeable Power Bank and theAR for Her PowerBank with LED flashlight and Panic Alarm, a.k.a the ZipStick. And while these product names seem to be quite a mouthful, they both accomplish the same job appeal to two unique demographics.

They are slim-line battery packs designed to power and charge up 5V USB devices. They have a built-in LED flashlight and a panic alarm that emits a very loud and annoying sound designed to either attract attention or to scare off something or someone.  READ FULL REVIEW at G4TV Canada.

Review: FritzFrame for iPhone 5 and 5s

1 FritzSay it quickly and it sounds like you’re saying “freeze frame”, but it’s actually Fritz Frame. It’s a cleverly designed video stabilizer, stand and case that allows you to position your iPhone 5 or 5S virtually any which way, even hang it, so you can do Facetime, watch videos and even take those must-have selfies, totally hands-free.

Frank Mansfeld, Fritz Frame CEO and director, and hisdesigners have exploited almost every viewing angle. Fritz Frame is hinged at the bottom, pivots at the centre and can rotate a full 360 degrees in any direction. Movement is smooth and precise on both the hinge and pivot, each with a six-step stop position.

Fritz Frame is amazingly sturdy, yet light, CNC machined from aircraft grade aluminum. It has a fine finish and even where there are square corners you’ll find them smoothly finished. Review: Divoom Voombox Travel – Wireless Portable Speaker

VoomBox Travel wetSummertime is a great time to take a portable Bluetooth speaker on the road and the Divoom Voombox Travel is suited just for that purpose. It has a cool round shape similar to that of a giant pocket watch topped with matching loop-style carabineer to conveniently hook it to your backpack, your bike or wherever you see fit.

VoomBox Travel features a sturdy rugged heavy-duty construction, that Divoom’s products are known for, complemented with rubber trim that makes it water resistant. It’s housed in a metal enclosure with speaker grills on both top and bottom with three discrete rubber strips on the underside that act as stabilizing feet.

It measures about 3″ in diameter with a depth of less than 2-inches and weighs in at 312g. Bottle opening timepiece focuses on Happy Hour

HappyHourISH1I don’t usually find it a challenge to come up with a headline for a story or review, but while tossing around a couple of ideas, this one certainly made me want to have a “beverage”. And so it should, that is, for the simple fact that when staring at it the entire face looks somewhat fuzzy, the hour and the minute hand appearing somewhat blotchy and none of the numbers visible with the exception of the “5”.

Now I know what you might be thinking – that I’ve already decided to partake in the human ritual known to many as Happy Hour which begins around 5 “ish” and that I’ve already had a few too many. Others might nod their heads in agreement, because after a long day, Happy Hour is the only time that matters. But truth be told, I haven’t had a sip – yet – and that’s the way the watch was designed – really!           Read full article At G4TV Canada

Nomad – ChargeCard, ChargeKey makers catch their breath

It’s rare you get a personalized special update message from a company letting you know where they’re at. But this is what happened to me today. Nomad which began as Kickstarter and Indiegogo projects and the makers of ChargeCard and ChargeKey, reviewed here and G4TV.ca, chimed in to tell me that they’ve cleaned up their backorders and are now able to fulfill orders the same day.
They’ve come a long way since their crowdfunding project kickstarted back in 2012 starting with the two co-founders in their grandparent’s basement to a full-fledged operation of 15 people in the heart of San Francisco.
So far, they’ve:
– Made over $2.5M in sales since launch
– Shipped nearly 100,000 cables
– Fulfilled all Kickstarter and Indiegogo pledges and pre-sales
– Become one of the top Shopify stores, the second in gross sales in the electronics category
Glad to hear about Nomad’s entrepreneurial success and look forward in hearing about their 3rd product which they are in the process of launching.

Nomad ChargeKey & ChargeCard – world’s smallest USB cable

Nomad ChargeKey & ChargeCardNo matter where we go we always need to have some sort of USB cable nearby, whether it’s to charge up our gadgets or sync with another device. The truth is, carrying them around can be somewhat of a pain. They can be too bulky, cumbersome or we have nowhere to put them. Well Nomad has come up with a solution – in fact two of them, ChargeCard and ChargeKey.

Technically, ChargeCard and ChargeKey are not really cables at all; they are connecting devices and work like cables but look like a credit card and a house key respectively. They both allow you to charge up your device when connected via USB and full-fledged data transfer when syncing to a computer or other compatible device.

Both ChargeCard and ChargeKey come in two models, one for Lightning connector compatible devices, like the iPhone 5, 5C & 5S as well as any iPad, including iPad mini and iPad Air. The other is a micro USB version that will work with most Android and Windows phones as well as your BlackBerry.

Focus 2 easily adds focus, blurring and other lens effects

There are days I’m in such a hurry to take a picture that I’m usually happy if it all comes out in focus. But there are times where adjusting the focal point of an object to make it jump out of the picture or purposely blurring a section for a contrasting effect, among other options, can really add to the overall impact of the image.

On many cameras today you can add effects right within the hardware or use a special lens.  You can adjust the aperture or maybe set it to take a shot in macro mode; but even then, it might not always come out the way you want.  Especially if you’re like me – a little depth of field challenged! Of course, there are apps for that. Classic apps like Photoshop can certainly do the job and then some and, although great for some people, it might be a little intimidating or overkill for others.  Read full Review at G4 TV Canada
