New gadgets you’ll give a hoot about!

Owl

I recently had an opportunity to be a guest at the London Drugs Retail Tech Group Conference and Trade show in Whistler, BC. It’s really nice to see that, even while technology is growing at an exponential rate, there’s still plenty of room for face-to-face interaction and one-on-one product demonstrations. Truth be told, it makes a whale of a difference. There were about 60 vendors in attendance and we managed to see a number of new and nifty things, many of which would make ideal gifts for the holidays. While it would be impossible to cover the whole gamut of what I saw in a short time, here are a few items, in no particular order, that I thought stood out and would make some great gifts for the upcoming holidays.

wwdcWindow

The Apple 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco kicked off with its traditional keynote lead by CEO Tim Cook. As expected, there were a number of announcements with respect to new hardware, updates to the Mac OS and iOS, which were not only designed to enhance the user experience but also a next step in bringing their desktop and mobile operating systems that much closer. Notably absent was any mention of refreshes to the iPhone, iPad or iPad mini, or the illusive iWatch, the last of which I was totally not surprised.

Review: NetTALK Duo Wi-Fi VOIP system

DuoWifi

There doesn’t seem to be a shortage of phone lines in my household but truth being told, with Skype, Facetime and my iPhone readily available, I hardly use them. While I’m not sure I’m ready to totally cut out the cord, it would be nice to find a way to cut down some of those monthly expenses.
