Great Clips App adds SIRI Shortcuts Integration & Haircut Reminder

How many times have you said to yourself, “Oh I forgot to get my hair cut,” or “I should have made an appointment with my stylist.” Well if you’re an iPhone or iOS user and a Great Clips customer, you’ll be happy to know there are two new updates and few new features to the Great Clips App to help easily remind you so you can look your best when you need to. Android users aren’t totally left out, there’s one update for you.

The company announced the first update includes an integration with latest Apple’s iOS 12 mobile operating system which includes the newly introduced ‘Siri Shortcuts’. With this update, and Apple’s latest update, customers can save themselves a whole lot of time by using Siri to initiate checking in to their usual salon location. They will also receive updated wait time estimates after then check in. Just saying, “Siri, check me into my favourite salon,” online check-in will open the Great Clips App to the customer’s previously selected ‘favourite’ salon. To set a shortcut, customers with the Great Clips App can go to the Settings within their device, select “Siri & Search” and then “All Shortcuts”. [Read more…]

iRig Mic Field records stereo in landscape or portrait mode

Back in 2012, here at CanoeTech Blog we reviewed IK Multimedia’s iRig Mic Cast a portable external microphone you popped into the headphone port of your iOS device. Skip ahead to 2015 and its follow-up product, the iRig Mic Field is a new and improved stereo and now digital microphone perfect, as the name says, for field recording and for both audio and video projects.

The iRig Mic Field connects digitally through your devices Lightning connector instead of the headphone jack eliminating any analog noise. Tips before installing iOS 8 Update

The rush to get the latest iOS 8 is in full swing. But before you hit the “Install Now” button and do the upgrade there’s a little homework to do and few things you should know.

First, whenever you are doing any major update of any kind, stuff can and often will happen – so it’s probably a good idea, no, it’s a great idea to do a full backup of your device. You can either backup through iCloud or even better, hook your computer up to your Mac or PC and do a full backup through iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version of that app installed. Getting screenshots from an Apple iOS device

You simply use one of a few keyboard shortcuts that typically involve using Shift-Command-3, Shift-Command-4 or a few variations thereof depending on your desired results. You could also use the Grab application amongst many others, for the same task. But with the lack of a physical keyboard on an Apple iOS device, ever wonder how you can do on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch?
