Review: IK iRig Acoustic Stage digital mic system for acoustic guitars

iRig_Acoustic_Stage_front_full_nojack_opt

Back in December 2015 we reviewed the iRig Acoustic mic as a great little gift for the music lover; a MEMS microphone that clips on to the sound hole of an acoustic guitar. Now, IK Multimedia has taken that one step farther with the iRig Acoustic Stage digital mic system, a portable pre-amp and a digital signal-processing unit (DSP) that can enhance the acoustic sound sent out to a mixing board or amplifier or output to a computer or mobile device.

Sold as a kit, iRig Acoustic Stage comprises of the main pre-amp/DSP unit, iRig Acoustic Mic (functionally similar, but not interchangeable with the one sold as a stand-alone product), a belt/strap clip and padded case.

The idea behind the mic was that you could get better sound from an acoustic instrument being as close to the sound hole as possible even closer than a traditional external mic could be placed. Also having it attached to the guitar, gives the musician the freedom to move around rather than be stuck in front of a stationary mic stand. Read more…and see full review at CanoeTech Blog.

IK Multimedia iRig Mic Studio digital pocket-sized studio quality mic

IK Multimedia, known for the iRIG series of hand-held and portable microphones for artists and podcasters has added yet another flavour to its line with iRig Mic Studio. It’s a large-diaphragm, digital desktop condenser mic designed for iOS and Android as well as for Mac and PC. It features an ultra-compact form-factor, smaller than their other handhelds that can actually sit in the palm of your hand.

What’s impressive, for it’s size, is it packs a hefty 1-inch diameter condenser, back electret capsule into an ultra-compact enclosure. It’s digital, so it has a built-in 24-bit audiophile-grade A/D converter offering 44.1/48kHz sample rates and a built-in low-noise, high-definition preamp all powered from whatever device you’re connected to. It has the capacity and sensitivity to capture a wide range of sounds from something that’s loud and proud to a soft whisper, making it very useful in a wide range of applications, including professional and broadcast quality recordings.  Read full Review at G4TV Canada.

iRig UA: First near-zero latency Android guitar effects processor

iRig UA _02Apple iOS has been the mobile OS of choice for many artists and musicians for many reasons with one factor being the inconsistency of Android devices/OSs with respect to audio latency – the time delay as audio passes through the system. So when IK Multimedia decided to create an Android version of iRig, their digital guitar interface and effects processor, instead of trying compensate for the myriad of Android flavours, they used a novel approach. The result: iRig UA, the first of its kind guitar and effects processor for Android devices with near-zero latency.  READ FULL REVIEW at CANOE TECH BLOG
