Whether it’s listening to music, a podcast, people during a Zoom meeting or simply a phone call, you’ve probably found you’ve been spending more time than ever before with buds in your ears. It has become imperative that the earbuds give us the best quality sound possible (while eliminating unwanted noise), be comfortable to wear and still maintain decent battery life.

Holiday picks from Beats by Dr. Dre, Mixcder, Jabra & Wicked Audio
With the weather turning cold and the leaves falling, holiday season is right around the corner. While many are thinking about keeping their ears warm, others might be thinking of keeping their ears filled with sounds of their favourite tunes and podcasts. Ears come in all different shapes and sizes and so do earphones, earbuds and headphones, so instead of toques and earmuffs, let’s look at a couple of pairs of over-the-ear headphones and in-the-ear wireless earbuds to meet different budget needs. Review: Jabra Halo Smart Wireless earphones
When Jabra announced the Halo Smart – wireless Bluetooth earphones and smart nonetheless, it truly piqued my interest – and in particular that they were also designed to give both voice and call, top priority, something often forgotten about in other sets.
To review the set, I thought I’d give them the test drive as I do others by taking them along with me along with my iPhone 5S for a week during my daily walks.
The first thing you notice about Halo Smart is its unique shape. Rather than just cables running to each bud or to a control module, each earphone is attached by a short cable to an almost squared off light-weight, U-shaped rubberized neckband, which sits quite comfortably around your collar. And should you need to adjust the fit, the arms have flex zones where you can bend them. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.
Phiaton BT-110 funky square bluetooth earbuds
Every time I come across a new set of earbuds or headphones I always hear from the vendors that theirs are a little bit different. Taking the opportunity to test drive the new Phiaton BT-110 wireless compact sport Bluetooth earbuds, I have to admit that these do fit that description.
First of all, looking at them, they seem to be something you’d find as an implant on an episode of Star Trek. Rather than the typical round bodies you find on most earbuds, these are actually rectangular so they sort of cover part of your ear.
To make sure you have a good fit, you get three sets of Vulcan-style silicon ear wings, featuring their aptly named RightFit+ technology and four sizes of traditional silicon tips. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.
SMS Audio heart monitoring earbuds require no batteries
If I mention heart monitor sensors to you you’d probably be thinking finger clip, wristband or maybe even watch. One thing for sure, you most likely wouldn’t be thinking earbuds. SMS Audio, founded by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has teamed up with Intel to create the BioSport Biometric Earbuds, so if it’s important to you to monitor your heart rate, you can do it while out and about listing to your favourite tunes without having to worry or need to have an additional device or gadget attached you.
SMS Audio is not the first out of the gate to create the dual-purpose earbud/heart monitor. However, what is novel is that the biometric monitoring is designed to use so little power, it does not require a battery; it’s fully driven from the 3.5 mm gold-plated audio jack that plugs in to your smartphone. CANOETech Review: Tenqa Fit Bluetooth Earbuds for Sports
It’s rare to get on a bus, walk in the park or visit a gym and not see people wearing a pair of earbuds, tuned in to their favourite music or video. But it’s even rarer to see them wearing in-ear bluetooth wireless earbuds to get the job done and Tenqa Fit does just that. READ MORE at CANOE TECH BLOG
a-JAYS Four funky tangle-free earphones
Your iPhone rings and you quickly answer it. You want to be hands-free so you reach for your earbuds but once again you have to fiddle and fumble and untangle them before you can actually plug them in to get to your call.
It’s certainly a pain, no only for you, but also for your caller.
So Jays, a Swedish based company decided to create the a-JAYS Four, a set of earphones designed primarily for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) that put an end to that endless problem. The solution was elementary, but cleverly executed – they made the cable flat; it’s 5mm wide, quite flexible and won’t tangle.
WoodTones Earbuds made from wood – really!
Gadgets and accessories are being made from all kinds of natural and man-made materials but these days the last thing you would expect them to be made from, especially a pair of earbuds, is wood. Surprise! Griffin Technology has just unveiled eco-friendly WoodTones earbuds that are made from reclaimed wood leftover from manufacturing processes that would otherwise end up being burned or dumped in a landfill.
