Last minute family friendly holiday gadget gift ideas

First up is the Epson Expression Premium XP-830. It’s a small versatile compact family five-cartridge inkjet all-in-one printer that also copies, scans, faxes, and more but won’t break the bank.

What’s cool is that it’s wireless, so no cables are required to print and you don’t even need to be hooked up to a computer. You can also print from a USB drive or SD-Card and, through Epson’s Connect software, you can print directly from your iPhone, iPad, and most other smartphones and tablets. Review: iRig Mic Lav monitoring lavalier mic

IK Multimedia’s tagline is “Musicians First,” but many of their offerings including their iRig Mic line of high quality microphones are also suitable for presenters, podcasters and videographers. But one selection missing from their line-up, until now was a lav (lavalier) mic. Keeping with their naming tradition, it’s called the iRig Mic Lav. Beyond a clip-on, this latest offering gives you the capability of monitoring what’s passing through it, as well as chain two mics together and simultaneously record to one device.

Dual-Purpose Jack

At first, it looks like your typical clip-on mic with a foam wind/pop shield, but look further down the cable and you see a dual-purpose connector that ports both a 3.5mm male and female connectors. The male goes to your recording device. The female serves two purposes depending on which selection you make to the toggle switch. Selecting the headphones option enables the monitoring option. Plug in a set of headphones or earbuds and you know that you are actually getting a recording. Review: The Pop, Universal Pop Filter by Blue Microphones

If you’re a podcaster or record lots of audio, you just might need The Pop. No, it’s not the ultimate soda beverage or someone’s Dad; it’s a universal windscreen that helps eliminate those extremely annoying popping “P” sounds that can really ruin what could have been an awesome voice recording.

While The Pop is commonly used with the Blue Yeti or Yeti Pro desktop USB microphones by Blue Microphones, it can be used with virtually any microphone as long as you can find a way to attach it.

The Pop is an interesting looking gadget. It consists of a curved brass frame with embedded wire mesh attached to a pliable gooseneck that is then attached by thumbscrew to a steel bracket. At the end of the bracket is another thumbscrew, which is then used to attach to either the frame of the microphone, mic stand or desk. The general idea is that you attach the bracket to some sturdy anchor point then bend the gooseneck so that the steel mesh frame sits nicely in front of a microphone and in essence filtering out the popping “P” sounds as you speak, or maybe sing. IK offers free 96kHz firmware upgrade for iRig PRO and iRig HD

While today is Canada Day, owners of the iRig Pro and iRig HD mobile audio interfaces have another reason to celebrate. These funky little devices that enable high-resolution audio sampling can now be enhanced via a firmware update to sample at higher 24-bit 96kHz, for free.

IK Multimedia, creators of the iRig HD and iRig Pro, announced today the no-charge update for registered owners of these devices, allowing them to double their original 24-bit 48kHz sampling rate. Apple iOS has been the mobile OS of choice for many artists and musicians for many reasons with one factor being the inconsistency of Android devices/OSs with respect to audio latency – the time delay as audio passes through the system. So when IK Multimedia decided to create an Android version of iRig, their digital guitar interface and effects processor, instead of trying compensate for the myriad of Android flavours, they used a novel approach.
