Review: Gatekeeper 2.0 Secure Wireless Lock & Key for your Computer

1 GatekeeperProtecting your data from prying eyes is more important than ever before. Still, we often forget to lock our computers when we walk away or purposely don’t bother because it’s too much of a pain to retype in a password every time you move to and fro. For this, Untethered Labs created Gatekeeper, a key fob sized wireless “lock and key” for your computer that automatically locks your computer when you walk away from it and unlocks it when you return.

It’s a pocket Bluetooth 4.0 enabled system that consists of a small rectangular coin-cell battery-operated key fob, a USB dongle and a companion app. The company’s latest model, Gatekeeper 2.0, which we’re reviewing here today, is updated and redesigned; At 45 mm x 25 mm x 6 mm and weighing 10 grams, it’s lighter and 20% thinner and with better range detection. The new sleeker fob has a rubberized matte finish, so it won’t slip from your hands with a built-in loop to secure it on a safety keychain attachment or lanyard – both included. The USB lock or dongle is half the size and now has a metal shield. The Android and iOS apps have been updated as well as the software for Windows and Mac although the Mac version is still in beta.  Read Full Review at G4TV Canada.

Review: Creative MUVO mini water-resistant wireless speakerphone

1 MuvoMiniPicIt’s nice to have a small portable wireless speaker that you can just throw in your backpack or purse. It’s even better, when you can get such a gadget that’s designed to withstand the elements without easily getting destroyed. The MUVO mini from Creative Labs certainly fits that bill.

Water-Resistant Compact Footprint

Muvo mini has a small footprint 7.4 x 1.4 x 2.3 inches housed in an attractive brick-shaped polished aluminum case.  It’s rated to IP66 standards, so it’s not waterproof, but it is water-resistant. And it’s light, weighing a mere 10 oz. It has a cool funky speaker grille pattern that could look like different things depending on how you visualize it. It might be a series of cubes stacked onto each other or a plethora of peace signs within a hexagonal shape.  The hexagonal motif also extends to its four speaker control buttons located atop the unit. KULR plays music charges your phone and keeps your beer cold

Kulr email image 2

Cooler, when used in the context of a place to keep your beer cold when on the beach doesn’t really stir up any excitement in one’s mind. But Kulr, which sounds the same is still a cooler but it’s high-tech and in a whole different category.

First off, the cooler part. It looks like a standard cooler, but a little more sleek and stylish. It has a scratch resistant shell and an elevated slip base to keep it slightly raised off the ground. It has extra thick insulated walls to keep your “brewskis” cold and will store up to 18 standard sized cans. And should you decide to go with bottles, there’s a custom bottle opener under the hood. Braven Bridge Executive Conference Call Speaker

Bridge_family_1There are lots of portable Bluetooth speakers on the market but I can’t say I’ve seen that many, particularly those offered in the consumer channel, specifically targeted or designed for the conference call market. But such is the case with the new Braven Bridge.

It’s being marketed as an “Executive Conference Call Speaker,” which I suspect is due to the fact that it offers both a luxurious design and built-in high definition microphones geared for use in a conference call environment. It’s an interesting differentiation as most other Bluetooth speaker offerings focus on the speaker with the microphone being a little extra, whereas for Braven, the mic is one of its primary features. Phiaton BT-110 funky square bluetooth earbuds

bt110-manEvery time I come across a new set of earbuds or headphones I always hear from the vendors that theirs are a little bit different. Taking the opportunity to test drive the new Phiaton BT-110 wireless compact  sport Bluetooth earbuds, I have to admit that these do fit that description.

First of all, looking at them, they seem to be something you’d find as an implant on an episode of Star Trek. Rather than the typical round bodies you find on most earbuds, these are actually rectangular so they sort of cover part of your ear.

To make sure you have a good fit, you get three sets of Vulcan-style silicon ear wings, featuring their aptly named RightFit+ technology and four sizes of traditional silicon tips. Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

Review: Sound Blaster JAM Budget Bluetooth Headphones

1 SoundBlaster JamFinding a pair of budget headphones that has both a recognized brand name and wireless is not always the easiest thing. So when I discovered the Creative Sound Blaster JAM is Bluetooth enabled, supports NFC  (near field communications) and retails for under $50 U.S., it certainly piqued my curiosity.

Sound Blaster Jam looks like a typical set of charcoal grey pre-millennium on-ear headphones fitted with a pair of traditional foam cushions except without wires.  They have an operating range of up to 15 m, a little less than typical Bluetooth, but then again, the further you stray from your music source, the more breakup you’ll probably get.  READ Full Review at G4TV Canada.

Boombotix Boombot mini speaker clips on to go

mini strapIt’s starting to sound cliché that I’ve seen speakers in all different shapes and sizes but I have to admit I haven’t come across one like the Boombotix Boombot mini that’s shaped like a triangle and features a reinforced clip to boot. Seeing it attached to a backpack strap or hip belt seems like something you’d see while walking the promenade on Deep Space 9 – well, almost.

Designed to be used for someone on the go, it’s made of lightweight yet shockproof high-impact ABS plastic designed to withstand impacts of up to 3m. Also, it’s IPX 4 weatherproof so while it may not survive being totally immersed in water it should be okay while out running or biking in the rain or snow.  Read full post at Canoe Tech Blog.

Review: ECOPEBBLE Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

1 ECOPEBBLEThere are many portable Bluetooth speakers on the market, a number of which are rated to resist occasional splash. However, the new ECOPEBBLE by EcoXGear has a waterproof/dustproof rating of IPX7, so it’s designed to not only keep out debris, but also water even when fully immersed to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes.

The ECOPEBBLE speaker is tiny and almost square, measuring 2.8 inches high, 2.9 inches wide by 2.8 inches deep and weighs a mere eight ounces. Its perimeter is fully rubberized with big button controls on the top and threaded camera mount screw post on the bottom to attach accessories or mounts. On one side is a colour grille and the other cleverly hidden panel behind a lanyard mounted lens-cap style cover that hides a 3.5” AUX audio-in jack for a wired connection, a microUSB input port for charging, a status indicator light and a main power switch.  Read full article at G4TV.ca.
