FLO touch-free smart thermometer tracks child’s temperature

FLO1 I remember long ago, as a child, not feeling well; the first thing Mom did was check my forehead for a possible fever and then force that awful glass thermometer which was never that accurate anyway, under my tongue. There has certainly been progress in this area over the years with technological advances. In fact, the new FLO Smart Thermometer by Zeraph can take temperature readings without entering or even touching any part of the body.  Read more…Full review at Canoe Tech Blog.

The company is expanding the line and introducing the same formula but in a convenient single-use wrapped wipe.

Whoosh! wipes out your smartphone’s bacteria

Whoosh

It comes in the form of a kit that consists of a clear spray solution and an anti-microbial 6″ x 6″ orange microfibre cloth. There’s no alcohol or ammonia in the solution, which can be harmful to the coatings on some screens, particularly those like the oleophobic coating found on the iPhone.

Screens like the iPhone are designed for capacitive touch. This means that it relies on the ever-minute electrical particles found in the human finger that makes touchscreens possible.  That’s why touchscreens don’t really work if you’re wearing regular gloves.

Personal quiet sound amplifier helps you hear better

Single BEanAs we get older things like your hearing start to deteriorate, especially if you worked in a noisy environment or went to too many “WHO” concerts without wearing proper hearing protection. To help out in these times Etymotic Research developed The BEAN – Quiet Sound Amplifier; it’s not a hearing aid that corrects hearing loss, but rather a personal sound amplification device that requires no prescription.

The company’s literature likens the BEAN “to wearing store-bought reading glasses that you only need to use part of the time.”  Read Full Review at CanoeTech Blog.

Slate – World’s 1st portable nutritional smart scale

SlateScale A Calgary company is weighing in on the health market by looking at bringing to market, through a crowd funding campaign, Slate Scale, the world’s first portable smart scale for nutrition tracking. Slate Scale is battery operated and designed to pair with your smart phone and when partnered with its companion app, becomes your personal dietitian.

The concept is simple. First you weigh your food (up to 1 kg) on the stainless steel scale. Then, you enter into the app what it is, or in some cases you may be able to use a barcode. The system then taps into a nutritional database, which determines the food’s macronutrients, and in turn it logs the item’s weight along with its calories, carbs, proteins and fat content.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog

biosport-a1If I mention heart monitor sensors to you you’d probably be thinking finger clip, wristband or maybe even watch. One thing for sure, you most likely wouldn’t be thinking earbuds. Oral-B Bluetooth toothbrush keeps your teeth white

Oral-B BluetoothEvery day we hear about some new device now equipped with Bluetooth. The latest, are Oral-B’s 5000 and 7000 series of interactive smart toothbrushes. Now back in March here at Canoe Tech Blog, we had a look at their latest plaque fighting tooth brush technology and learned the secret about how it all came about because a German engineer had an epiphany while brushing snow off the driveway. Their latest models, Oral-B SmartSeries with Bluetooth 4.0 Connectivity 5000 and 7000 still incorporate the ridiculously fast oscillations and pulsations and still include their remote SmartGuide, but now you’re able to monitor and track your progress and even share the data with your dental professional because there’s now an app for that.

To get the lowdown on the brushes capabilities, have a look at the original article, as today, I’d like to focus primarily on the model’s Bluetooth connectivity and the app it brings to the table. What’s interesting is that not only does the brush send data to the app; the app also has customization capabilities that allows it to communicate back to the brush for personalized brushing.  Read full review at Canoe Tech Blog.

Runtastic Orbit fitness activity and sleep tracker review

orbit_with_clip_en

I spend a significant amount of time in front of some form of screen and probably not enough time at the gym, doing things that keep me in shape like walking which I strive to do at least three to five times per week. Now depending on whom you talk to, it can take 21 days, 40 days or somewhere in between to form a habit. Whatever that number is for you, having a device able to be with you 24/7 is a probably a good way to start. So I jumped at the opportunity to test-drive the new Runtastic Orbit, a real-time activity, fitness and sleep tracker.

Austria-based Runtastic is not a newcomer to the tracking game; they already have a whack of other apps on the market like Runtastic Road Bike, Pedometer and Wintersports. However, this is their first foray into providing their own complete hardware and software solution.    The heart of the Orbit comes in the form an interestingly shaped waterproof module. It’s designed to slip into one of the two wristbands provided or a clip you can attach to your belt or wear on a lanyard around your neck.   Read more…At Canoe Tech Blog
