LG V20, world’s first Quad DAC smartphone coming in September?

In the days where it’s getting harder and harder to add significant innovations to smart phones, LG has taken a bold step to appeal to the discerning audiophile. They’ve announced their upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG V20 will feature a built-in 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC (digital to analog converter) — a smartphone industry first.

Inclusion of a high-quality DAC is not new to LG. The V20′s predecessor, the LG V10 already includes 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC by ESS Technology, but the new DAC, will feature four channels. The company claims the new addition will allow the new phone to deliver ultra-crisp and clear sound that comes close to replicating a live performance. Review: Jabra Halo Smart Wireless earphones

When Jabra announced the Halo Smart – wireless Bluetooth earphones and smart nonetheless, it truly piqued my interest – and in particular that they were also designed to give both voice and call, top priority, something often forgotten about in other sets.

To review the set, I thought I’d give them the test drive as I do others by taking them along with me along with my iPhone 5S for a week during my daily walks.

The first thing you notice about Halo Smart is its unique shape. Rather than just cables running to each bud or to a control module, each earphone is attached by a short cable to an almost squared off light-weight, U-shaped rubberized neckband, which sits quite comfortably around your collar. Review: Creative MUVO mini water-resistant wireless speakerphone

1 MuvoMiniPicIt’s nice to have a small portable wireless speaker that you can just throw in your backpack or purse. It’s even better, when you can get such a gadget that’s designed to withstand the elements without easily getting destroyed. The MUVO mini from Creative Labs certainly fits that bill.

Water-Resistant Compact Footprint 

Muvo mini has a small footprint 7.4 x 1.4 x 2.3 inches housed in an attractive brick-shaped polished aluminum case.  It’s rated to IP66 standards, so it’s not waterproof, but it is water-resistant. And it’s light, weighing a mere 10 oz. It has a cool funky speaker grille pattern that could look like different things depending on how you visualize it. It might be a series of cubes stacked onto each other or a plethora of peace signs within a hexagonal shape.  The hexagonal motif also extends to its four speaker control buttons located atop the unit. IK Multimedia iRig Pro DUO offers dual channel midi interface

A portable MIDI interface is pretty handy to have particularly when you’re on the road, so if you’re doing an impromptu performance or a live recording session and have both a guitar and a mic, you might be out of luck, unless you either have two interfaces or the iRig Pro DUO – the latest portable MIDI interface from IK Multimedia that features two channels.

This new dual-channel gadget is a follow-up to the original single channel iRig Pro, we looked at here at CanoeTech Blog back in mid-2013. Not only does it double your channels, it’s been enhanced with additional features not found on its predecessor.
