Review: iRig BlueTurn wirelessly turns your page

iRigBlueTurn_top_feet

Accessing your computer or mobile device while on stage for artists or presenters can often be a pain. This is especially true if your hands are full and all you want to do is turn a page on your sheet music, change a setlist or move through a presentation. This is where the new iRig BlueTurn comes in. It’s a compact wireless page turning gadget that utilizes your foot rather than your hand.

Created by IK Multimedia and made in Italy, iRig BlueTurn is a simple yet clever little BlueTooth enabled box. It’s designed to sit on the floor with two soft touch illuminated buttons positioned side-by-side to execute commands from one of three preset modes: Arrow up/down, Page up/down or Arrow left/right that you can configure upon power-up. In some apps, receiving these commands may allow control of other functions such as scrolling and start/stop functionality in certain modes depending on how the app interprets the standardized commands. Satechi Ventie car vent mount for your smartphone

VentieFront

When you hear Ventie, the first thing that comes to mind is a mega cup of Starbucks coffee. But this Ventie has a slightly different spelling and has nothing to do with the caffeine fix; what it can do is make your smartphone hands-free by giving you the option to easily mount it to the air vent in your car.

The Ventie Mount by Satechi is a clever little accessory.  It has a spring-loaded head designed to grip any smartphone that measures between two and three and one-half inches wide. It could also be rotated to accommodate a number of GPS models or even your smartphone if you prefer to orient it in landscape mode.

In fact, the grip head is mounted using a ball-and-socket joint and swivel arm system giving you some decent flexibility in positioning the mount to give you the optimal viewing angle from your driver’s seat. Read moreat Canoe Tech Blog.

Review: Latest Kindle Paperwhite right for you?

Kindle Pencil

As an avid iPad user, I never thought I’d ever have a need for an e-reader until I actually spent some time with one. I love books, all kinds of books, physical print books and e-books and when I need to read the latter, I always have an iPad or iPhone within arms reach. But after spending some time reviewing the newest Kindle Paperwhite, I realize it doesn’t have to be one or the other; this e-reader can certainly find a home alongside your favourite tablet.

For those familiar with the Kindle Paperwhite, the revamped 2015 model, replaces the original 2013 offering. Physically, the changes are hardly noticeable. The new incarnation still features a 6-inch greyscale display with e-ink, but it’s now 300 ppi (pixels per inch), up from 212 ppi with a resolution of 1430 x 1080, twice the number of pixels than before. They’ve also doubled the storage memory to 4GB.  [Read more…]

Review: iRig Mic Lav monitoring lavalier mic

irigmiclav_filterIK Multimedia’s tagline is “Musicians First,” but many of their offerings including their iRig Mic line of high quality microphones are also suitable for presenters, podcasters and videographers. But one selection missing from their line-up, until now was a lav (lavalier) mic. Keeping with their naming tradition, it’s called the iRig Mic Lav. Beyond a clip-on, this latest offering  gives you the capability of monitoring what’s passing through it, as well as chain two mics together and simultaneously record to one device.

Dual-Purpose Jack

At first, it looks like your typical clip-on mic with a foam wind/pop shield, but look further down the cable and you see a dual-purpose connector that ports both a 3.5mm male and female connectors. The male goes to your recording device. The female serves two purposes depending on which selection you make to the toggle switch. Selecting the headphones option enables the monitoring option. Plug in a set of headphones or earbuds and you know that you are actually getting a recording. Toggle the switch, plug in another lav mic and now you can record two people and even monitor through the 2nd port.  Read full review at Canoe Tech Blog.

Review: Sound Blaster JAM Budget Bluetooth Headphones

1 SoundBlaster JamFinding a pair of budget headphones that has both a recognized brand name and wireless is not always the easiest thing. So when I discovered the Creative Sound Blaster JAM is Bluetooth enabled, supports NFC  (near field communications) and retails for under $50 U.S., it certainly piqued my curiosity.

Sound Blaster Jam looks like a typical set of charcoal grey pre-millennium on-ear headphones fitted with a pair of traditional foam cushions except without wires.  They have an operating range of up to 15 m, a little less than typical Bluetooth, but then again, the further you stray from your music source, the more breakup you’ll probably get.  READ Full Review at G4TV Canada.

So IK created the iKlip Case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus a case that would protect your phone but also double as a stand and allow for the flexibility of multi-angle viewing.

4 Viewing Options

iKlip Case has both practical and protective design elements. Built into the case are two ridged polycarbonate wing-style legs that can be adjusted in various positions to create a stand. It allows you to view your iPhone screen four different ways; two positions in portrait mode i.e. 45° and 60° angles and two in landscape mode, 60° or 80° angles.  Read more…at Canoe Tech Blog.

iRig UA: First near-zero latency Android guitar effects processor

iRig UA _02Apple iOS has been the mobile OS of choice for many artists and musicians for many reasons with one factor being the inconsistency of Android devices/OSs with respect to audio latency – the time delay as audio passes through the system. So when IK Multimedia decided to create an Android version of iRig, their digital guitar interface and effects processor, instead of trying compensate for the myriad of Android flavours, they used a novel approach. The result: iRig UA, the first of its kind guitar and effects processor for Android devices with near-zero latency.  READ FULL REVIEW at CANOE TECH BLOG

Review: ECOPEBBLE Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

1 ECOPEBBLEThere are many portable Bluetooth speakers on the market, a number of which are rated to resist occasional splash. However, the new ECOPEBBLE by EcoXGear has a waterproof/dustproof rating of IPX7, so it’s designed to not only keep out debris, but also water even when fully immersed to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes.

The ECOPEBBLE speaker is tiny and almost square, measuring 2.8 inches high, 2.9 inches wide by 2.8 inches deep and weighs a mere eight ounces. Its perimeter is fully rubberized with big button controls on the top and threaded camera mount screw post on the bottom to attach accessories or mounts. On one side is a colour grille and the other cleverly hidden panel behind a lanyard mounted lens-cap style cover that hides a 3.5” AUX audio-in jack for a wired connection, a microUSB input port for charging, a status indicator light and a main power switch.  Read full article at G4TV.ca.
